NATURE UPENDED

A series of digital images.

NATURE UPENDED

In these times Nature has become Upended…the World has become Upended…

My artworks explore the chaotic and fragile boundaries between humans, other species, and the planetary ecology. In this urgent time of climate crisis, these are also the spaces and relations of transformation, catastrophe, mutations, and creativity.

In my recent art practice, I have sought out aesthetic reflection on the uncertainties of habitat destruction and its consequence for the emergence, and reappearance, of infectious diseases and contagions.

Nature Upended is a digital photo series that depicts these tensions and turbulent interactions, captured in both image and production techniques. Each image was originally sourced from a photograph of nature in my neighbourhood or from a past vacation. It was then fed and generated through a virtual tool. Within each of these altered images there is a radical transformation. The possibility of disaster emerges in the upending of a seemingly natural setting, the outcome looms wild and unpredictable in their potentiality.
